Indian Milk Chai

Indian Masala Chai has been an age-old tradition and recipe in South Asia. Nowadays, spiced tea with milk is served with sweet biscuits (or crackers in the US). This recipe is a vegan form of my family's chai recipe. It is smooth, comforting, and a delicious snack.

Masala Chai with Oatmilk and Parle-G Biscuits

2 cups milk (I use oatmilk)
3 tsp loose leaf black tea (or 2 tea bags)
1 tbsp sugar (adjust to taste)
1 tsp minced ginger
1 tsp ground cardamom
1 tsp fresh ground pepper
1 tsp ground clove or two full cloves
1 cinnamon stick
1 pinch of saffron (optional)

In a pot, bring to heat oatmilk, ginger, cinnamon stick, clove, saffron, and tea. Let the flavors of the spices and tea infuse into the milk for about 3-5 minutes until the milk comes to a slow simmer. Then pour into tea cups using a strainer. Add sugar to taste and serve with your favorite cookies or biscuits. Enjoy!

Tip: if the tea ends up being too rich, feel free to add 1/3 cup water to thin it out.
